The Kennedy Files is a graphic account of the origins of the Kennedy legacy. The Man Who Would be President is the first volume.
London, 1938 – Self-made millionaire Joseph P. Kennedy’s aim is to become America’s first Irish-Catholic president. He is appointed ambassador to the court of St. James by President Roosevelt, who wants Kennedy out of the way. Initially Kennedy’s arrival in London is welcomed by the British. The press and the people adore the glamorous, all-American family. Meanwhile a storm is gathering over Europe as Nazi Germany is becoming more and more aggressive. Kennedy sides with the appeasers in London, especially through his close relationship with England’s Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain. For Kennedy, war is simply ‘bad for business’. He desperately tries to convince Roosevelt to stay out of the European conflict. This does not go well with the president, nor with the British.
The Kennedy Files is a highly original non-fiction graphic novel series based purely on facts. It exudes history, drama, wit and entertainment. Nigel Hamilton, award-winning biographer, academic and author of JFK: Reckless Youth, will write the epilogue, which provides historical context to the graphic novel. Erik Varekamp and Mick Peet previously created the enormously successful series Agent Orange, a biography of the Dutch Prince Bernhard.
The second and third volumes of The Kennedy Files are expected in 2018 en 2020, which will delve deeper into the history of one of the most famous members of the Kennedy clan: John F. Kennedy.
